Step 01Pre-Dawn Departure from Colombo / Negombo
Your private driver collects you from your hotel in the early hours — Yala’s morning safari begins at sunrise and this is when wildlife is most active. The expressway drive south takes approximately 3.5–4 hours. Bring a light jacket for the cool pre-dawn air, and rest on the way down.

Step 02Arrive Yala — Jeep Transfer & Park Entry
Arrive at the Yala main gate and transfer into your open-top safari jeep. Your experienced park-registered guide briefs you on what to look out for and the best zones to explore within Block 1 — the richest wildlife area of the park, covering lagoons, scrub jungle, and open plains along the coast.

Step 03Morning Jeep Safari — Peak Wildlife Hours
The heart of the day. Spend 3–4 hours navigating the dusty tracks of Block 1 as your guide reads animal signs, tracks, and waterholes. Leopards are most frequently spotted in the early morning resting on rocks or patrolling territory. Elephant herds gather at lagoons, sloth bears emerge from rocky dens, and the birdlife is spectacular at every turn. Keep your camera ready at all times.

Step 04Lunch Near the Park
After exiting the park, stop at a recommended local restaurant near Yala or Tissamaharama for a well-earned meal. Fresh rice and curry, seafood, and cold drinks before the journey north.
